October 28, 2009 "Paul Galbraith Interview"

This week's program features an interview with Paul Galbraith, founding member of the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, and music by Rodrigo, Bach, Villa-Lobos, and Bryan Johanson.

The program begins with an interview recorded in April 2007 with Paul Galbraith, founding member of the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, who describes the fortuitous and almost accidental early success of the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, and how their busy touring schedule led to his difficult decision to leave the group.

Christopher Parkening's 2007 EMI CD release, "Jubilation" primarily features duets with baritone Jubilan Sykes. One of the solo guitar works on the CD is an arrangement of Joaquin Rodrigo's Canconeta, originally for violin and string orchestra.

Portland, Oregon-based guitar composer Bryan Johanson performs with cellist Hamilton Cheifeitz in selections from his larger work, "Simple Serenade."

The program ends with Bach's flute sonata BWV 1034, performed by Aisling Agnew and guitarist Matthew McAllister.
