October 22, 2008 "Obscurity to Fame"
<Listen To Preview>
This week's edition of Classical Guitar Alive! features music ranging from the obscure to famous.
Not much is known about Baroque lutenist composer Corignani- his birth and death dates are even a mystery.
His only known surviving work is his four-movement concerto for two lutes in Bb. John Schneiderman performs both
parts of the first movement.
From one of the most unfamiliar to one of the most famous: Joaquin Rodrigo's (1901-1999) "Concierto de Aranjuez" for
guitar and orchestra was an immediate resounding success from its 1940 premiere to present-day.
The program concludes with a work somewhere in the middle of the two previous pieces: Federico Moreno-Torroba's
(1891-1982) "Castles of Spain", for solo guitar, from the 2007 Naxos release featuring Ana Vidovic.
