April 10, 2006 "Live Performances, Ana Vidovic Interview/Studio Performance"
<Listen Online Now>
This week's program features music from live performances recorded around the world and an
interview/performance with the young virtuoso Ana Vidovic, which was taped at the KMFA studios in Austin in
January 2006.
The program begins with the opening performance recorded at the 5th Annual New York Guitar Seminar at the
Mannes School of Music. The guitar duo of Michael Newman and Laura Oltman perform Fernando Sor's
"Fantasy and Dance in the Spanish Style", op. 54.
Three Plucked Strings is the name of the ensemble of Avi Avital, mandolin, Yuval Avital, guitar, and Yizhar
Karshon, harpsichord. It's also the title of a piece written for the ensemble by Israeli composer Yehezkel
Braun, in this live performance recorded at the Kfar-Bloom Festival in Jerusalem.
Brazilian composer Radames Gnattali's rarely-heard "Concerto for Two Guitars and Orchestra" is featured on a
live archival recording by the then-young duo of Sergio and Odair Assad with an unknown Polish orchestra.
Stephen Robinson's performance of Roland Dyens' "Fuoco" from his larger work "Libra Sonatine" was recorded at
the 2001 Stetson International Guitar Workshop at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.
The program continues with a 2005 performance by Viva Trio flutist Renata Green, and guitarist Tony Morris of
Sergio Assad's "Valseana".
The program concludes with an interview and live studio performance by Ana Vidovic, which was recorded at
the KMFA studios in January 2006.
Special thanks to Mr. Byron Fogo for the Assad recording, and also to Florence & Charlie Mayne.
